This my friends is what happens when you run lean. After tear down of the motor I discovered that the injector on this cylinder was missing the filter basket. I promptly sent it the entire set to RC Eng and had them clean them and verify the flow figures. BTW JE pistons melt at 1650 F The piston is a JE .040 over piston with Sealed Power Rings. The blow up was on ESPN at the NIRA nationals in Dallas back in 1998?

lookin at the top of the piston,what are those pitt marks? is that the valves hittin the top? or from detonation?

on the dished part of the piston?the flat part,not the part where there are 4 cuts on the top.

Ahhh ok!

I saved the pic enlarged it and brightened it up a bit and my guess is they were made by what was left of the sparkplug!
