NA/Turbo Cam differences-

Only the NA intake cam is different. It has LESS lift and MORE duration than the turbo version. This is good for low end power/tq, but rather bad for top end power. There have been a few dyno results showing some gains, but they were on rather stock cars. It really depends on what you want to do and what your goals are...

basically, stock cams are 200/201, 7.44mm of lift......then someone else claims the stockers come in @ 160/160 (both measured @ .050

Just for information, stock Mark III intake turbo cams have 200
duration @ 0.050" and a lift of .295" (approx 7.493mm), and
exhaust of 201 duration @ 0.050" and a lift of 0.297" (approx
7.544mm). When HKS made 256 (advertised) duration cams, the
intake cam lift was 8.35mm (8.15mm valve lift) and exhaust cam lift
was 8.35mm (8.10mm valve lift).

I understand (don't know for fact, since my head is in the process
of being rebuilt with Crower regrinds (intake of 221 duration @
0.050" with 0.331"/8.407mm lift, exhaust of 218 duration @ 0.050"
with 0.328" / 8.33mm lift) that the stock valve springs near coil bind
around 0.335" (8.51mm) lift....

ok, found the info i was after on a cam mfg's website. the effective duration might be diff from hks's by 1 or 2deg but i dont think itll be an issue. these are advertised duration and effective duration at 0.050"

230deg 209 effective

244deg 218 effective

256deg 226 effective

264deg 236 effective

272deg 250 effective

284deg 256 effective

from a spec sheet ive seen on 7m regrinds
lobe center for intake should be 107deg and lobe center for exhaust should be 115deg


now, its up to you to chose the grind and the lift, then send some cams to be ground or get them from 935. the 244deg cams according to robert work well on a lightly modded 7mgte. id say a 8mm lift would work well with that grind on a upgraded ct26 and no port work on the head. if you have some port work and a smaller turbo(~400rwhp) the 256 would do well again at 8mm lift. i myself and going with 264's with 8.5mm lift as i have had the head seriously worked. i would go 272's, but i plan to drive the car on the street and want the power lower in the rpm range. the 230deg grind look a lil better then stock, so i really wouldnt mess with it. effective duration of stock cams is like 201deg. so prolly stock cams are in the 220deg range from what ive found. hope this info helps some people out.
